The announcement of the candidacy of Boules Sport for the 2024 Olympic Games has cast the spotlight on a sport
and disciplines which are still not well-known. Petanque, Boule Lyonnaise, and Raffa Volo, the Boules Sport disciplines, are represented in 165 countries, via 262 federations and more than 200 million players. 67 countries have already won medals in at least one world championship.

Sport Boules is already present in the largest multi-sport global events: World Games, Mediterranean Games, Asian Indoor Games, S.E.A Games, All Africa Games, Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games, Islands Games (Indian Ocean), Asian Beach Games. This sport now benefits from a new image, highlighting its values of universality, popularity, and communication, and its responses to the criteria for eligibility for the Olympic Games.

Claude AZEMA

President of the CMSB

(Confederation Mondiale Sports Boules)

Our sport, ecompassing the three disciplines of Petanque, Lyonnaise and Raffa, harbours the ambition of submitting its candidacy for the Summer Olympic Games programme. This sport promotes the gathering of men and women regardless of their age, origin, roots, religion or social and professional background.

Highly competitive, it is represented at numerous multi-sport international sporting events. Moreover, it is a sociologically unifying and health-promoting leisure sport that deserves to be given Olympic status. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that we share this ambition with all other sports that have an equal claim to this status.

We must not be competitors, but united in our efforts to achieve a common goal in defending the nobility of all sports. We therefore hope that we will come together to speak with one voice, to work in the same direction, to uphold the universality of all sports.

Christian LACOSTE

CMSB unifying around the candidacy

The same sport,

Several disciplines,

one single candidacy.

The Confédération Mondiale des Sports de Boules (CMSB) is the international organization, recognized by the International Olympic Committee, which governs the sport of the boules.

The CMSB – Confédération Mondiale des Sports de Boules – was created (on 21 December 1985 in Monaco) by three international boules organizations:

> CBI Confederazione Boccistica Internazionale (Raffa bocce)
> FIB Fédération Internationale de Boules (Sport-boules)
> FIPJP Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (Pétanque and Jeu Provençal)

For the purpose of lobbying the Olympic committee to make boules sports part of the summer Olympics. World Bowls (bowls) has also become a member.

Boules and the CMSB were granted consideration for entry to the Olympic Games on 15 October, but have never been granted the status of an official Olympic sport. Nevertheless, every year the CMSB continues to re-present its application.

The CMSB is a sports federation recognized by the following confederations.

International Olympic Committee (IOC)
Association of the IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF)
International World Games Association (IWGA)

Our disciplines

Petanque is played on every type of ground. The aim of the game is to get your boules as close to the jack as possible. It is possible to shoot or hit the opponent’s boule both directly, without touching the ground or by rolling a boule along the ground to hit the target boule.

The player has to play his game standing with both feet on the ground inside a circle. There also exists a special competition of Precision Shooting.

The bowls used must rigorously follow the protocol set out by the F.I.B, which is included in the Regulations relating to the approval and conformity check of the bowls.
They can be completely hollow or filled. In the latter case the bowls must be filled with a substance or homogeneous mixture of inert substances. They must not contain any liquids, nor any compositions which could become unstable (gas) and could be dangerous.
The filling of the bowls must be statically balanced and that balance must be maintained after the bowls have been used.

The raffa or the roundup is a sport practiced with plastic balls. This sport usually practiced on the clay or carpet is part of Italy. Since the International Federation CBI over 50 countries within it.

This sport very close to of petanque and Lyonnaise Bowls based on concentartion, address and strategy. Like all sports balls its members are fighting the same battle to be recognized Olympic sport.
